COMMERCE, CUSTOMS, AND NAVIGATION, NEW ZEALAND AND SWEDEN. EXCHANGE OF NOTES ARRANGING MUTUAL MOST-FAVOURED NATION TREATMENT.

Presented to both Houses of the General Assembly by Command of His Excellency.

Savoy Hotel, London, W.C. 2, 24th May, 1935. Sir, — I have the honour to inform you that, pending the conclusion of a Treaty of Commerce and Navigation between Sweden and New Zealand, the New Zealand Government will accord to Sweden the same treatment in matters of commerce, Customs and navigation as is or may be accorded to the most favoured foreign country, provided that the Swedish Government grant to New Zealand the same treatment in matters of commerce, Customs and navigation. It is understood that the term " foreign country " in relation to New Zealand means a country not being part of the British Commonwealth of Nations, nor a territory under British protection or suzerainty, nor a mandated territory in respect of which the mandate is exercised by the Government of a part of the British Commonwealth of Nations. It is further understood that the aforesaid treatment shall continue in force until the expiration of three months from the date on which either Government shall have given to the other notice of revocation of the arrangement. Sir, — I have the honour to acknowledge receipt of your note dated the 24th instant on the subject of the treatment to be accorded by the New Zealand Government to Sweden in matters of commerce, Customs, and navigation, pending the conclusion of a Treaty of Commerce and Navigation between Sweden and New Zealand. Under instructions from my Government, I beg to inform you that the Swedish Government will on their side accord to New Zealand the same treatment in matters of commerce, Customs, and navigation as is or may be accorded to the most favoured foreign country, provided that the New Zealand Government grant to Sweden the same treatment in matters of commerce, Customs, and navigation.
