Petitioners allege that, through a mistake made by the Government valuer in reporting that no marketable timber existed on the Mangakowliara Block when the land was sold, they suffered great loss, and they pray that inquiry be made into the circumstances of the sale, so that they may recover what is justly due to them. 1 am directed to report that the Committee is of opinion this petition should be referred to the Government for inquiry. 31st August, 1927. Final Retort. I have the honour to report that the Native Affairs Committee hold its final meeting to-day (25th November). During the session the Committee held thirty-one meetings, the average attendance at each meeting being eight. Including eighteen petitions brought forward from last session, the Committee had before it eighty-one petitions ; of these seventy-four were dealt with and reported upon, the remaining eight, are unavoidably held over (see schedule). The Native Land Amendment and Native Land Claims Adjustment Bill was fully considered and reported on. Nine parliamentary papers were considered and reported on. 25th November, 1927.
