I am directed to report that the Committee, believing, after hearing the medical evidence, that death was probably caused by a strain, proved to have been received while in the Government Printing Works, recommends the petition to the Government for favourable consideration. 20th September, 1907. No. 539. —Petition of Henry Cavell, of Palmerston North. Petitioner prays for relief on account of an injury to his daughter. I am directed to report that the Committee, having heard the evidence, and also seen the medical certificate, are of opinion that this is a deserving case, and recommend the same to the Government for favourable consideration.

I am directed to report that, during the taking of evidence, Mr. W. H. Crothers, agent, State Coal Depot, Christchurch, gave evidence as follows: — Q. " Will you state what your depot is charged for coal at Lyttelton?" A. " No, Mr. Chairman, I could not; this is a departmental matter." Q. "Do you decline to give the information?" A. "Yes." Q.
