Annual Eepoet of the Senate. In compliance with the 28th clause of the University Act, the 'Senate makes the following report to His Excellency the Governor of the proceedings of the University since the date of the last report : — The Senate met at Christchurch, pursuant to the provisions of the University Act, in annual session on the 23rd January, 1907, and at that session made certain amendments to the University Statutes. These amendments have been approved by His Excellency. The usual examinations were held in May, November, and December, 1906, and in January and March (for medical only), 1907, in the Faculties of Arts, Science, Medicine, Law, Engineering, Commerce, and Music, and for admission to the legal profession. The total number of candidates at these examinations was 2,120. The Senate also held a special session in March, 1907. At the annual and special sessions the Senate ordered the following to be conferred by the Chancellor or his deputy, subject to the payment of the necessary fees : The degree of Bachelor of Arts on 48 candidates, the degree of Bachelor of Science on 11 candidates, the degree of Doctor of Science on 1 candidate, the degree of Bachelor of Laws on 16 candidates, the degree of Bachelor of Medicine on 9 candidates, the degree of Bachelor of Surgery on 9 candidates, the degree of Master of Arts on 26 candidates, the degree of Master of Science on 4 candidates, the degree of Master of Laws on 2 candidates, the degree of Bachelor of Music on 1 candidate. In addition, 22 gained Honours in Arts; 1 gained Honours in Science ; 2 gained Honours in Law ; 10 gained Senior Scholarships ; 1 gained the John Tinline Scholarship ; 1 gained the Macmillan-Brown Prize ; 177 passed sections of examinations for various degrees, exclusive of the above-mentioned graduates; 99 passed various examinations for admission to the legal profession ; 15 gained Junior Scholarships; 16 gained Senior National Scholarships; 1 gained a Taranaki Scholarship; 4 were recommended for Senior Queen's Scholarships; 21 gained "credit" at the Junior Scholarship Examination ; 497 passed the Matriculation and Solicitors' General Knowledge Examination; 135 passed the Matriculation Examination ;42 passed the Medical Preliminary Examination ; 10 gained certificates of proficiency.
