CENSUS OF NEW ZEALAND, APRIL, 1906.

Begistrar-General's Office, Wellington, 11th August, 1906. Thk total population of the colony (exclusive of Maoris and the population of the annexed Pacific Islands), according to the census of the 29th April last, is shown in the first of the tables presented herewith. The figures are the result of the compilation in this office, and may be considered as finally fixed. The distribution ofthe people in provincial districts, counties, boroughs, islands, and on shipboard is given in Tables II to V, while in Table VI details for the various ridings, road and town districts are stated. Two further tables (VII and VIII), showing the number of inhabitants in the wards of the different boroughs, and in the four chief cities with their suburbs, are added, besides one (IX) which is a summary of the dwellings of the people.
