May it Please Youb Excellency,— We, the members of the Middle Island Eepresentation Commission appointed by lour Excellency on the 29th day of May, 1902, have the honour now to forward to Your Excellency the names and descriptions of boundaries of the electoral districts provisionally fixed by us under the authority of our commission, and which we propose publishing forthwith in the New Zealand Gazette in compliance with section 4 of " The Eepresentation Act, 1887." We have arranged to meet again on the Bth August next for the purpose of considering any objections that may be lodged under the above-named section, and after considering and disposing of such objections we shall have the honour of again reporting to Your Excellency the final result. ELECTOEAL DISTRICTS, MIDDLE ISLAND. City of Nelson. City of Nelson District comprises the area covered by the existing City of Nelson Electoral District together with D'Urville Island and Stephen's Island, and the Bulwer Peninsula extending from Hallam Cove to Harding Point. The City of Nelson, the Borough of Eichmond, and Town District of Havelock are in this district. Motueka. Motueka District comprises the area covered by the existing Motueka Electoral District; together with that portion of Hampden Eiding of Inangahua County situated to the north-east of a line commencing at the Buller Eiver where that river is crossed by the western boundary of the Inangahua County, and proceeding thence easterly along the left bank of the said Buller Eiver to a point about 30 chains westward of Doughboy Creek, thence along the leading spur to Mount Mantell, and thence along the summit of the Mantell Eange and the summit of Cann Eange to the Spenser Mountains near Faerie Queen. The Borough of Motueka is in this district. BULLEE. Buller District comprises the Borough of Westport; the Boatman's, Murray, Crushington, and Eeefton Eidings of Inangahua County ; and the south-western portion of Hampden Eidmg of Inangahua County, which is bounded towards the north by the Buller Eiver from the Buller County boundary to a point about 30 chains westward of Doughboy Creek, and thence by the summit of the leading spur to Mount Mantell, and thence by the summits of the Mantell and Cann Eanges and Spenser Mountains near Faerie Queen; together with the Lyell, Wareatea North, Wareatea South, and Charleston Eidings of Buller County. Geey. Grey District comprises the area covered by the existing Grey Electoral District, less Charleston Eidine of Buller County, which has been added to Buller District, hereinbefore described; together with Marsden Eiding of Grey County, and a small portion of Maori Creek Eiding of Grey County situated between Maori Creek Eoad and Marsden Eiding. The Boroughs of Greymouth and Brunner are in this district

Westland. Westland District comprises the area covered by the existing Westland Electoral District less the whole of Marsden Biding of Grey County and that portion of Maori Creek Biding of Grey County, which have been included in the Grey District, hereinbefore described. The Boroughs ot Hokitika, Kumara, and Boss are in this district. Waieau. Wairau District comprises the area covered by the existing Wairau Electoral District excepting that stretch of country extending from Cook Strait to Barefell Pass, known as that portion of Awatere Biding of Marlborough County situated south-east of a line commencing at Cook Strait at Lake Grasmere, and proceeding south-westerly along the northern shore of that lake to the Main Boad, thence along the Main Boad to Blind Biver Creek, thence along Blind Biver Creek to its source, thence along a right line to Mount Peter, thence along the summit of the Kaikoura Bange over Monument Hill, Big Cregan, Tapuaenuku and Mount Monro to Barefell Pass; and excepting also D'Urville Island, Stephen's Island, and the Bulwer Peninsula extending easterly from Hallam Cove to Harding Point. The Boroughs of Blenheim and Picton are in this district. Hueunui. Hurunui comprises the Counties of Kaikoura, Amuri, and Cheviot, and that portion of Awatere Bidine of Marlborough County not absorbed by the Wairau District, hereinbefore described; together with the Waipara, Kowai, and Mount Thomas Bidings of Ashley County. Amberley Town District is in this district. Kaiapoi. Kaiapoi District comprises the Boroughs of Bangiora and Kaiapoi, together with the Mandeville, Cust, Eyreton, and West Eyreton Bidings of Ashley County. Avon. Avon District comprises the Boroughs of New Brighton and Linwood; that portion of Heathcote Biding of Selwyn County situated north of the Boroughs of Woolston and Linwood; the New Brighton Subdivision of Avon Boad District; that portion of Bichmond Subdivision of Avon Boad District lying eastward of the road forming the western boundaries of Sections Nos. 713 and 1135 Block XI Christchurch Survey District; and the whole of Styx Subdivision of Avon Eoad District excepting that portion extending about.two miles.and three-quarter.south fromthe mouth of the Waimakariri Biver, and lying north of Bural Sections Nos. 2638, 2637, 2340, 31684, 20428, and 19571. City of Christchurch. City of Christchurch comprises the City of Christchurch, the Borough of St. Albans, the Borough of Sydenham, and Hagley Park. EICCAETON. Biccarton comprises the Biccarton Boad District; the Papanui and Belfast Subdivisions of 'Avon Boad District; that portion of Bichmond Subdivision of Avon Boad District situated westward of Sections Nos. 713 and 1135, Block XL, Christchurch Survey District; and that portion of Styx Subdivision of Avon Boad District which extends about two miles and three-quarters south from the mouth of the Waimakariri Biver, and is situated north of Sections Nos. 2638, 2637, 2d40, 31684 20428 and 19571, Block IV., Christchurch Survey District; together with that portion ot Templeton Boad District lying east of a line commencing at the junction of Springs Boad with Junction Boad, and proceeding thence northerly along Springs Boad to the South Boad, thence westerly along the South Boad to the Southbridge Bailway-line, thence northerly along the Southbridge Bailway-line to Hornby Junction Boad, and thence along Hornby Junction Boad to the north-eastern boundary of Templeton Boad District. Ellesmere. Ellesmere District comprises that portion of Ellesmere Biding of Selwyn County within the boundaries of the existing Ellesmere Electoral District : that portion of Lincoln Biding of Selwyn County situated south of a line commencing at the Selwyn Bailway-bridge, and proceeding easterly alone the Southbridge Branch Bailway from the Biver Selwyn to the Little Biver Bail way; thence southerly along the Little Biver Bailway to the road forming the southern boundaries of Bural Sections Nos. 10211 and 9499 ; thence easterly along that road to the western boundary of Bural Sections Nos 4727 and 4754; and thence southerly along the western boundary of the lastmentioned sections to the Halswell Biver : the Taitapu Eoad District of Selwyn County : together with the Borough of Akaroa, and the whole of Akaroa County less that portion of Port Victoria Boad District lying to the west of Gebbie's Pass Boad, leading from the head of the bay to the road district boundary and Lyttelton Harbour. Southbridge Town District is in this district. Lyttelton. Lyttelton District comprises the Boroughs of Lyttelton, Woolston, and Sumner; that portion of the Heathcote Biding of Selwyn County within the boundaries of the existing Lyttelton Electoral District ■ that portion of the Victoria Boad District of Akaroa County situated within the boundaries of the existing Lyttelton Electoral District; that portion of Halswell Boad District of Selwvn County situated east of a line starting from the road at the southern corner of Spreydon Boad" District near Cashmere, and proceeding southerly along the road intersecting Section No. 383, and passing Sections Nos. 502, 1324, 4682, 2599, 4620, 2063, 31362, intersecting Sections Nos. 10210 and 493 to Section No. 452, and thence along the north-western and south-western boundaries ot the last-mentioned section to the eastern boundary of Halswell Boad District; and that portion of Spreydon Boad District of Selwyn County situated south of 'Stark's Boad and east of Barrmgton Boad.

COUETENAY. Courtenay District comprises the whole of the Templeton Eoad District of Selwyn County less that portion absorbed by Eiccarton District, hereinbefore described ; the whole of the Halswell and Spreydon Eoad Districts of Selwyn County less those two portions absorbed by Lyttelton District, hereinbefore described ; that portion of Springs Eoad District of Selwyn County situated north-west of the Southbridge Branch Eailway, east of Little Eiver Eailway, and north of the road forming the southern boundary of Sections Nos. 10211 and 9449, Block V., Halswell Survey District ; and the whole of Courtenay and Lincoln Eoad Districts of Selwyn County. Sblwyn. Selwyn District comprises Malvern and Coleridge Eidings of Selwyn County, and that portion of Ellesmere Eiding of Selwyn County situated in the existing Selwyn Electoral District, together with Oxford Eiding of Ashley County, Mount Hutt and South Eakaia Eidings of Ashburton County, and that portion of Upper Ashburton Eiding of Ashburton County situated east of Winchmore Eoad and north of Black's Eoad. Ashbubton. Ashburton District comprises the existing Ashburton Electoral District, less that portion of Upper Ashburton Eiding of Ashburton County situated north of Black's Eoad and east of Winchmore Eoad, which has been added to Selwyn District, hereinbefore described. The Borough of Ashburton and the Town Districts of Tinwald and Hampstead are in this district. Gebaldine. Geraldine comprises the existing Geraldine Electoral District, minus Albury Eiding of Mackenzie County, and plus that portion of Point Eiding of Levels County within the boundaries of the existing Timaru Electoral District. The Borough of Temuka and the Geraldine Town District are in this district. TIMABU. Timaru District comprises the existing Timaru Electoral District, less the portion of Point Eiding of Levels County included therein, which has been added to Geraldine District, hereinbefore described. Waitaki. Waitaki District comprises the existing Waitaki Electoral District and Albury Eiding of Mackenzie County, less all the country lying south of the Waitaki Eiver and west of the Ohau and Hopkins Eivers. The Borough of Waimate is in this district. Oam ABU. Oamaru District comprises the Borough of Oamaru; the Papakaio, Waiareka, Incholme, and Kakanui Eidings of Waitaki County ; that portion of Otepopo Eiding of Waitaki County situated north of a line commencing where the north branch of the Waianakarua Eiver crosses the northwestern boundary of Otepopo Eiding, and proceeding easterly to the confluence of the said north branch with the south branch of the Waianakarua Eiver, and thence along the Waianakarua Eiver to the sea-coast; together with that portion of Otakaika Eiding of Waitaki County lying between the north and south branches of the Kakanui Eiver, and extending to Kakanui Peak. Mount Ida. Mount Ida District comprises that portion of Waitaki County within the boundaries of the existing Waitaki Electoral District, and the whole of Maniototo County; together with the Manuherikia, Matakanui, and Hawea Eidings of Vincent County ; and that portion of Lindis Eiding of Vincent County north-east of a line commencing at the confluence of the Bannockburn with the Clutha Eiver, and proceeding thence easterly to the track leading from Bendigo to the watershed between Devil's Creek and Bannockburn, and thence southerly along that track to the southeastern boundary of Lindis Eiding. The Borough of Naseby is in this district. Waikouaiti. Waikouaiti District comprises the whole of Waihemo and Waikouaiti Counties, and that portion of Waitaki County situated south of a line commencing at the south-western boundary of Waitaki County, near the source of the north branch of the Waianakarua Eiver, and proceeding easterly along the said branch to its confluence with the south branch of the Waianakarua Eiver, and thence along the Waianakarua Eiver to the sea-coast; together with the Boroughs of Hampden, Palmerston South, and Hawksbury. Chalmees. Chalmers District comprises the Boroughs of Port Chalmers, and North-east Valley, and West Harbour; Peninsula County ; and that portion of the Borough of St. Kilda situated east of Hillside Eoad. Quarantine Island, in Otago Harbour, is in this district. City of Dunedin. City of Dunedin District comprises the City of Dunedin ; together with the Boroughs of Eoslyn.Mornington, and Maori Hill. Caveesham. Caversham District comprises the Boroughs of Caversham and South Dunedin, and that portion of the Borough of St. Kilda situated west of Hillside Eoad. Taieei. Taieri District comprises the whole of Taieri County less that portion lying between Lee's Creek and the Taieri Eiver, west of the road fronting Sections Nos. 41, 40, 23, 22, and 5, Block IV., Maungatua Survey District; together with the Boroughs of Mosgiel and Green Island. The Town Districts of Outram and Allan ton are in this district.

Beuce. Bruce District comprises the existing Bruce Electoral District, with the addition of that portion of Maungatua Eiding of Taieri County situated between Lee's Creek and the Taieri Eiver west of the road fronting Sections Nos. 41, 40, 23, 22, and 5, Block IV., Maungatua Survey District, and less Clydesdale Eiding of Clutha County. The Boroughs of Kaitangata and Milton are in this district. Clutha. Clutha District comprises the whole of Clutha County; Tapanui Eiding of Tuapeka County; the Borough of Balclutha: and that portion of Mataura Eiding of Southland County east of a line commencing at the south-eastern corner of Tuturau Eoad District, and proceeding thence northerly along the eastern boundary of the said Tuturau Eoad District Co the source of the north branch of the Otakaramu Stream ; thence along a right line to the south-western corner of Block IX., Waikaka Survey District; thence along the western boundary-lines of Blocks IX. and VI. and 111., Waikaka Survey District, to the northern boundary-line of the last-mentioned block; thence easterly along the northern boundary of the said Block 111. to the eastern boundary of Southland County ; thence northerly along the eastern boundary of Southland County to the road leading to Chatton Village ; thence westerly along that road, passing Maitland Village, to Chatton Village ; thence north-easterly along the road forming the south-eastern boundary of Section No. 9, Block V., Chatton Survey District, and along the continuation of that road, passing Waikaka Township, to the northern boundary of Mataura Eiding. The Borough of Tapanui and Clinton Town District are in this district. Tuapeka. Tuapeka District comprises the existing Tuapeka Electoral District, less the Matakanui and Manuherikia Eidings of Vincent County, which are included in Mount Ida District, hereinbefore described. The Boroughs of Lawrence, Eoxburgh, and Alexandra are in this district. Wakatipu. Wakatipu District comprises the existing Wakatipu Electoral District, with the addition of that portion of Oreti Eiding of Southland County lying north of the Waimea Plains Eailway from Lumsden to Balfour, east of the road leading westerly from Balfour, passing Sections Nos. 353, 351, and 266, to and across Waimea Stream, and north of the road intersecting Section No. 91, to Cowan's Creek ; less the Hawea Eiding of Vincent County, and less that portion of Lindis Eiding of Vincent County included in the Mount Ida District, hereinbefore described. The Boroughs of Queenstown, Cromwell, and Arrowtown are in this district. Matauba. Mataura District comprises the existing Mataura Electoral District, with the addition of that portion of Mataura Eiding of Southland County not included in the Clutha District, hereinbefore described, and less that portion of Waihopai Eiding of Southland County lying to the north of the Seaward Bush Eailway and west of Blocks I. and VI., Oteramika Survey District. The Boroughs of Gore and Mataura and Wyndham Town District are in this district. Awaeua. Awarua District comprises the existing Awarua Electoral District, with the addition of that portion of Waihopai Eiding of Southland County situated north of the Seaward Bush Eailway and west of Blocks I. and VI., Oteramika Survey District, and that portion of Awarua Eiding of Southland County bounded, towards the north by the Waihopai Eiver; towards the east by Blocks VII. and XXIII., Invercargill Hundred; towards the south by the Seaward Bush Eailway; and towards the west by the Borough of South Invercargill and the road known as Oteramika Eoad, fronting Sections Nos. 38, 2 of 21, and 13 ; towards the north-west by the road known as Dunedin-Invercargill Eoad, fronting Sections 8, 13, 14, 15, and 16, Block 11., Invercargill Hundred; and again towards the west by the road known as Mill Eoad, fronting Sections Nos. 16, 17, and 12 of the said Block 11., to the Waihopai Eiver: and less that portion of Winton Eiding of Southland County north of the northern boundaries of Winton, Forest Hill, and Oreti Hundreds. The Boroughs of Winton and Campbelltown are in this district. Invebcaegill. Invercargill District comprises the existing Invercargill Electoral District, less that portion of the Waihopai Eiding of Southland County included within the boundaries of the Awarua District, hereinbefore described, and bounded towards the north by the Waihopai Eiver ; towards the east by Blocks VII. and XXIII., Invercargill Hundred ; towards the south by the Seaward Bush Eailway ; towards the west by the Borough of South Invercargill and Oteramika Eoad to the Main Eoad, Invercargill to Dunedin ; thence towards the north-west by the last-mentioned road to Mill Eoad ; and thence again towards the west by Mill Eoad to the Waihopai Eiver. The Boroughs of Invercargill, North Invercargill, South Invercargill, East Invercargill, Avenal, and Gladstone are in this district. Wallace. Wallace District comprises the existing Wallace Electoral District, with the addition of that portion of Winton Eiding of Southland County lying north of the northern boundaries of Oreti, Winton, and Forest Hill Hundreds which is included within the boundaries of the existing Awarua Electoral District, and less that portion of Oreti Eiding of Southland County included within the boundaries of Wakatipu District, hereinbefore described. The Borough of Eiverton and Otautau Town District are in this district.
