ROLLING-STOCK IMPORTED RETURN SHOWING AMOUNT OF, FROM WHOM PURCHASED, AND COST.

Return to an Order of the House of Representatives dated the 10th day of July, 1901. Ordered, "That there be laid before this House a return showing separately,—(l) The number of engines, carriages, and wagons purchased or ordered outside the colony up to the 30th June last, for use on the Government railways ; (2) the names and addresses of the makers or agents from whom such rolling-stock was purchased or ordered; and (3) the cost of each such carriage, engine, or wagon when fitted up and plaoed on the rails ready for use."—(Mr. Massby.)

Sharp, Stewart, and Co,, Glasgow, Scotland ; Eichmond Locomotive Works, Eichuaond, U.S.A.; Brooks Locomotive Works, Dunkirk, U.S.A.; American Car and Foundry Company, St. Louis, U.S.A. ; Messrs. Brown, Marshall, and Co., Birmingham, England ; The Ashbury Eailway Car and Wagon Company, Manchester; Messrs. P. and W. MacLellan and Co., Glasgow, Scotland; Messrs.
