SUPREME COURT CRIMINAL AND CIVIL BUSINESS (RETURN OF), FOR YEAR ENDED 31st MARCH, 1889.

Return to an Order of the House of Representatives, dated 11th July, 1889. Ordered, "That a return of the criminal and civil business in each of the various judicial districts of the Supreme Court of New Zealand for che year ending 31st March, 1889, be laid before this House; such return to show (1) the number of criminal cases on the calendar; (2) the number of criminal cases actually tried ; (3) the number of criminal cases in which the persons charged pleaded guilty, or in which the charges were otherwise disposed of than by trial; (4) the number of writs or citations issued in civil or divorce cases; (5) the number of such cases set down for trial; (6) the number of such cases actually tried; (7) the number of motions or other applications in Banco ; (8) the number of summonses or other applications in Chambers ; (9) the number of applications in each Superior Court of Bankruptcy dealt with by the Judge ; (10) the number of such applications dealt with by the Registrar." —(Mr. Samuel.)
