JAMES 0. GAVIN, Treasury, Wellington, 26th April, 1888. Secretary to the Treasury. JAMES B. HEYWOOD, Assistant Secretary and Accountant. In certifying this statement it is my duty to call attention to the fact that the total unauthorised expenditure exceeds the statutable limit of one hundred thousand pounds by a sum of £6,599 18s. 3d. That this was not discovered in time was owing to the vote for Eduction having been erroneously entered in the audit ledger in full, instead of subject to an abatement of £18,892, as stated in the estimates. JAMES EDWARD FITZGERALD, Controller and Auditor-General.
