\_Mr. Fitzherbert.']

E—No. 1l

copy m a DESPATCH prom governor gore browne to his grace the duke op Newcastle. Government House, Auckland, New Zealand, 22nd October, 1860. My Lord Duke, — I have the honor to forward two Addresses which have been presented to me, —one from 436 of the inhabitants of Wellington, and one from certain residents in the Valley of the Hutt, ten miles from Wellington. These Addresses are particularly gratifying to me because they are signed by a largo part of the most respectable inhabitants of these places after full investigation into the cause and origin of the War; and because the Bishop of Wellington, Archdeacon Hadfield, and the Members of the House of Representatives from Wellington (excepting the Speaker) have been the most strenuous opponents of my policy either in the Assembly or by means of the public press. ■ I have, &c, T. Gore Browne. His Grace the Duke of Newcastle., &c, &c, &c.
