BRITAIN AND POLAND
MINISTERS IN CONFERENCE LONDON, Jan. 11 The Foreign Secretary, Mr Anthony Eden, late in the afternoon received M. Mikolajczyk, Prime Minister of - Poland, and Count ; Romer, the Foreign Minister. The Polish question is regarded as a test case for a policy of reason- ■ ableness in European settlement embracing Yugoslavia and Greece, where Russia is also showing a strong hand, says the Washington correspondent of the New York , Times. For this reason, the United . States is expected to continue its ■ efforts to achieve a reasonable adjustment of the Polish border dis- ; pute. In the face of the Soviet claims, no precipitate action is expected, but the United Sates apparently intends to continue supporting the Polish Government in exile. Mr R-oosevelt , is believed to be eager to dispose of , the Polish question satisfactorily before the November elections, , otherwise the situation of 1920 might ' be repeated, when European con- ' troversies figured largely in the 1 elections. 1 At any rate, the intention in Wash- ■ ington .is to remain patient yet tenacious. There is no disposition to 1 fight Russia over the Polish question. «
