On Thursday, April 12, members of the Catholic Women’s League met in the league room which was gay with bowls c£ hydrangeas and bright autumn flowers, Mrs Fearon presiding over a good attendance. The president expressed her appreciation of the generous help given to make the recent bring-and-buy such an outstanding success, as £75 would be added to parish funds. It was also announced that members had made up ,and despatched 70 parcels to chaplains and men of the parish serving overseas. When business was concluded, opportunity was taken to farewell Mrs E. Kelleher, secretary of the Hamilton League, who is leaving shortly for Ashburton. Mrs Kelleher was presented with a posy, and afternoon tea was served. Elocutionary items were given by Miss Marie Prendergas;. Speaking on behalf of the league, the Rev. Father Hayes expressed regret at the impending departure of Mrs Kelleher, who had been an excellent secretary and a splendid worker, and in wishing her every happiness in her new parish, presented her with a suitable religious memento. Mrs Kelleher suitably replied. Competitions were won by Mrs Kelleher and Mrs Hill. The hostesses for the afternoon were Mesdames Tyson, Corby, Fearon, Dowd, Holden.
