50 TON LAUNCH SINKS
TARTY’ OF 43 ESCAPES RESCUE BY NAVAL PATROL AUCKLAND, Monday When the 60-foot motor-vessel Lady Jocelyn, of 50 tons, owned by Captain H. E. Carey, struck a reef and foundered in steep seas half a mile from the eastern shore of Motuihi Island yesterday afternoon, a major tragedy was averted by the arrival o'f a naval patrol, which took off the 43 members of a fishing party. Shortly afterward the Lady Jocelyn turned on her side and went under. The vessel was making for the Motuihi wharf to land a naval rating who was found in distress in a dinghy in mid-channel.
