Flight-Lieutenant F. Butler and Pilot-Officer F. Hyde, of Hamilton, are home on leave after active service in Malaya. Mr B. Kalaugher, at present assistant engineer Public Works Department, Hamilton, was appointed assistant engineer to the Hamilton Borough Council at a meeting of the council last night. Mr G. H. Smith, of Te Hana, has been elected to replace the late Mr J. E. Elliott on the Auckland Education Board. Mr Smith will represent the North Wafd of the rural area. Messrs J. Johnstone (Melbourne), F. Whitehead, J. C. P. Rogers, I. T. Wilkie, A. B. W. Darrock, R. Oak and A. Baillie (Auckland) are at the Hamilton Hotel. Messrs J. Sweeney, E. C. Hartridge, J. Pownand, A. Johnston, Davey (Wellington), B. H. Legge (Wanganui'), S. Yates (Kaitaia), J. L. Innes, T. B. Wright, N. C. Stapleton, Brett, E. McLean and J. Oliver (Auckland) are at the Commercial Hotel.
