SUCCESS OF AMERICANS (Official Wireless) (Received March 25, 3.15 p.m.) RUGBY. March 24 A further communique on the opemtions in Burma states: The American volunteer group carried out two simultaneous raids against Japanese airfields early on Tuesday. The first was on a field at Chiangmai, where from 40 to 50 Japanese aircraft were surprised on the ground, including fighters and bombers, and three or four transports. When the Americans left there were seven fires on the ground among the planes. One fire contained three planes. Seven to ten planes were completely disabled and several others were damaged. The group was met by heavy anti-aircraft fire. A second raid was conducted simultaneously on a field at Lambhun.
