WEST SCHOOL

USE AS HOSPITAL DELAY IN HANDING BACK SHORTAGE OF PLASTERERS A delay in the erection of the infectious diseases block at the Waikato Hospital, with the result that the new Hamilton West School, which is being used as an emergency hospital for soldiers, could not be handed back at the end of the year as was originally promised, was announced by the chairman of the Waikato Hospital' Board, Mr F. Findlay, at the monthly meeting of the board today. The war had caused a shortage of plasterers, said Mr Findlay, and although the eastern portion of the block was being advanced as rapidly as possible, the building could not be completed as early as was expected. The medical superintendent, Dr. H. L. Gould, therefore advised that the school should not be handed back. It was decided to inform the Hamilton West School Committee that in view of the war situation in the Pacific the board had no option but to postpone handing the school back. Mr V. W. Simms said he thought the school committeee would understand the position.
