MEASURES TAKEN
TROOP MOBILISATION TERRITORIAL TRAINING NATIONAL MILITARY RESERVE WAR WORK DURING HOLIDAYS (By Telegrapn.—press Association) WELLINGTON, Wednesday Territorials who were to go into i camp on January 10 for two months’ collective training are to be called up, mobilisation to begin next Monday. This decision of the War Cabinet, made in view of the war situation, was announced tonight by the Prime Minister, the Rt. Hon. P. Fraser. The National Military Reserve was being called up as from today to man fortress areas and certain vital points, Mr Fraser said. Members of the Home Guard would have responsible duties assigned te them and members of the Emergency Precautions Scheme would be expected to take up their posts if the need should arise. “ The manufacture of munitions and necessary war supplies will have to be maintained right through the holiday period,” the Prime Minister continued. “ Suitable arrangements will have to be made. This is a time when all must be prepared to serve and sacrifice. There will be many inconveniences caused to a large number of people and very few will be free from some dislocation of their arrangements, with a full realisation that the life of everyone in the community may be at stake the fullest co-operation is anticipated.” RECRUITS WANTED DEFENCE ORGANISATIONS A meeting of the leaders of the National Military Reserve, Lines of Communication Company, Home Guard and E.P.S. held in Hamilton yesterday decided to form a recruiting committee immediately, to enlist personnel for these organisations. The Area Commander, LieutenantColonel R. Tilsley, stressed the importance of bringing all units up to strength without delay. A recruiting office for enrolments has been opened at the old Money Order Office, Victoria Street.
