EMBASSY STAFF SHOCKED TO REPORT TO POLICE (United Press Assn.—Elec. Tel. Copyright); (Received Dec. 9, 11.30 aun.) LONDON, Dec. 8 A press attache at the Japanese Embassy in London, M. Mitsui, said all members of the Embassy were shocked when communication with Tokio was cut off on December 7. No arrangements have yet been made for the exchange of British and Japanese residents. Many Japanese have been given temporary accommodation at the Embassy. The Home Office announced that all Japanese nationals over 16 years of age in the United Kingdom are required to report to the police. It is reported from Bombay that the police have rounded up male Japanese throughout India. At least 60 were taken into custody at Bombay alone. About 40 Japanese firms have been taken over by the controller. No action is contemplated at present against Japanese women. Mr Roosevelt has authorised the arrest of Japanese nationals in the United States who are regarded as dangerous to the security of the nation. About 1000 Japanese aliens will be affected. In a broadcast from Manila it was reported tha,t native Japanese had seized control of some communities where they were thickly concentrated, but in other sections the Filipino police rounded up the Japanese and are taking them to concentration camps.
