FAREWELL FUNCTION
MISS J. PATERSON HONOURED A happy social evening was tendered Miss Jean Paterson before her departure for Suva, where she will continue her nursing in the Suva Hospital. The social, which was held in the Returned Soldiers’ Hall, Ngaruawahia, on Friday evening, was given by members of the Waikato Mounted Rifles, of which regiment Miss Paterson's father, Lt.-Col. T. Paterson, is a past commanding officer. The evening was spent in dancing and items, Miss May Brennan and Captain Tahiwi supplying the music. Mr K. M. Wright was master of ceremonies. In making the presentation of a wristlet watch on behalf of the regiment, Captain E. McGregor, M.C., referred to Miss Paterson as the “daughter of the regiment,” remarking that they had always taken an interest in her career, as she had been born when the regiment had been encamped on her father's property. He wished her good luck and bon voyage. Mr K. M. Wright, president of the Returned Soldiers’ Association, made a presentation, endorsing the good wishes of Captain McGregor, these being reiterated by Mr H. B. Fraser and Mr C. McCovvan. Miss Paterson, who was wearing an ivory and claret georgette gown, suitably responded. A cablegram received from Miss Paterson’s brother, Lieutenant T. Paterson, a member of the Second Echelon, wishing her good luck, was read, and he was honoured with a toast. Among those present were:—Mesj dames T. Paterson, black chenille georgette; K. M.
