GRAVE ABUSES

PETROL REGULATIONS I REASON FOR OFFICIAL CHECK PERSONS WITHOUT CARS (By Telegraph.—Press Association) WELLINGTON, Friday The Oil Fuel Controller, Mr G. j_.. Laurenson, in a statement, says that petrol consumption checks have been carried out to protect the great majority of motorists from the depredations of a few unpatriotic persons who are using petrol in an illegal manner. Honest persons have nothing whatever to fear from disclosing to their local controller the source of their petrol. There have been, however, some very grave abuses of the regulations by unscrupulous persons misusing petrol obtained under license. It :s in the interests of all motorists to prevent the wasting of petrol by s,uch unpatriotic individuals. Mr Laurenson points out that the purpose of rationing is to adjust supplies to the essential demands and needs of the country as a whole. He mentions cases of abuse which include people not even possessors of i cars.
