Copyright) LONDON, August 13 Reliable observers insist that the economic distress and poverty in Spain are reminiscent of Russia during the first year of the Bolshevik revolution. Commodities and provisions, especially tobacco and butter, are “incredibly” scarce. German propaganda, contrasting Portugal’s condition with that of Spain, contends that “Portugal is Spain’s legitimate hinterland,” and advocates that Spain occupy “this land of plenty.”
