Copyright) LONDON, Aug. 5 According to the Daily Mail, the Japanese Embassy in London reveals that the British authorities arrested three Japanese journalists in Rangoon on Friday and another in Singapore on Sunday. A Japanese business man has also been arrested in Kongkong. Japanese circles in Singapore express surprise at the detention of Mr Kobayashi, manager of the Eastern News. They state that he is being well treated, and was permitted to take with him a suitcase containing clothing and other necessities. Mr Kobayashi is well known in Singapore. as in addition to his work for the Eastern News he was the Domei agency’s correspondent when the Eastern News was started. The Japanese Foreign Office spokesman in Tokio, Mr Suma, declined to comment on the London arrests pending detailed reports. He said cablegrams from London were being delayed. He explained that Mr Suemasa Okamoto, counsellor at the Japanese Embassy in London had reported that the arrests were not retaliatory, but he thought more arrests would be made. Mr Suma added that the arrests confirmed were four in London, one in Singapore, and one business man in Hongkong, while the reported arrests in Rangoon had not been confirmed. Mr S. Makihara, of the Mitsubishi Company, who was arrested last week, has been released. It is understood that the Home Secretary decided that the evidence available against Mr Makihara was insufficient to justify his continued detention.
