Copyright) TOKIO, August 5 The Japanese Government is fully determined to take drastic measures in the event of the Anglo-Japanese situation becoming worse over “the repeated illegal arrests of Japanese residents/* according to the Domei news agency in Tokio. The Tokio newspaper Chugai Shogyo Shimpo said the Japanese Government will demand that the British release the arrested Japanese and give a guarantee against further arrests. The Japanese Foreign Office to-day stated that the Foreign Minister, Mr Matsuoka, and departmental chiefs had discussed the arrests of Japanese in London, as well as counter-meas-ures. However, no details were given and the Foreign Office is awaiting more details before taking formal action. Mr Matsuoka called on the British Ambassador, Sir Robert Craigic. The Prime Minister, Prince Konoye. went to Hayama. It is believed he informed the Emperor of the AngloJapanese situation. The Kobe Chamber of Commerce and Industry, at a special meeting, carried a resolution demanding reconsideration by Britain of the arrests of Japanese, and urged that Japan's Ministers {,pr War, the Navy and Commerce should take a firm stand. The resolution will be sent to Sir Robert Craigie. The Domei news agency says an assembly at Osaka decided to hold an anti-British meeting on Wednesday, and carried a resolution stating: “For the sake of establishing the solidarity of Greater Asia, we demand that the influence of outrageous Britain shall be annihilated.” There will be similar meetings in Tokio. Bomb In Shanghai The French police discovered a bomb inside a police pillbox outside the Shanghai Evening Post building. An unexploded bomb was found under one of the printing presses in the building four days ago, after the disappearance of a Russian member of the French Concession police who was detailed to guard the building.
