CHEESE AND BACON
CONSUMPTION BAN FAVOURED (By Telegraph.—Special to Times) KAIKOHE, Wednesday A largely attended meeting of farmers of the Bay of Islands, Whangaroa and Hokianga, held in Kaikohe, passed unanimously the following resolution: “That it is the opinion of this meeting that the total prohibition of cheese and pig meat should be put into operation in New Zealand forthwith.” The resolution rose out of the consideration of Britain’s increased need for bacon and cheese, and it was considered that there would be a great incentive to begin to produce meat for home consumption after the British quota had beenfilled if pig meat and bacon were prohibited in the Dominion until that time. The meeting was attended by Mr A. J. Murdoch, Northland representative of the Dairy Board, and Mr W. James, of the Northland Pig Council who pointed out the need of Britain and gave advice to farmers as to the best way to go about increasing production.
