FRENCH FRIENDSHIP BIRDWOOD’S CONFIDENCE GREETING TO OLD COMRADES (United Press Assn.—Elec. Tel. Copyrlgnt) LONDON, Feb. 17 The Franco-British Parliamentary group today passed a resolution welcoming the Anzacs, “who have come to share the defence of our ideals,” says a message from Paris. The resolution also assured the Anzacs of French friendship toward the young nations across the Pacific. The British Lord Privy Seal, Sir Samuel Hoare, in a speech at Nottingham, said: “The country shares in the common pride in the splendid contingents from Australia, New Zealand and Canada, who, in the hour of the Mother Country’s need, hastened to her aid.” Field-Marshal Birdwood, who commanded the Anzacs at Gallipoli in the last war, has cabled to MajorGeneral Freyberg, V.C., General Officer Commanding the New Zealand Expeditionary Force:—“Sincerest and heartiest wishes and greetings to my old comrades and to new ones whom I hope to know in due course. “I have no doubt of a decisive victory, in which they will play a great part under your leadership.”
