COAL MINING DISPUTE
OWNERS OFFER REJECTED GENERAL STRIKE PROBABLE (United Press Assn.—Elec. Tel. Copyright) SYDNEY, Feb. 16 The coalmining unions last night announced their rejection of the owners offer of a conference on the latters’ terms, which were not acceptable. The owners were prepared to keep the door open to a settlement, provided that there was no demand for any variation of the Arbitration Court’s award, particularly as to the uniformity of hours, and provided that the men abandoned their policy of a one-day strike each week. In the event of the Federal Government not intervening by the end of the month, the miners’ officials intend to precipitate a general strike.
