TE RAPA GALLOPS

TO.DAY’S FINAL TRIALS

BEAU REPAIRE WORKED GLENBEVAN’S GOOD HALF (By “Martian”) The outside of the course proper, 75 feet out from the rails, was available for galloping at Te Rapa this morning and while the majority ol local horses were sent along the few visiting horses on the scene were restricted to easy exercise on the sand. The going, after further heavy overnight rain, was naturally cutting out, but nevertheless, in comparatively good order. In event of the weather looking up between now and Saturday there is still every possibility of good going for the meeting although it is sure to be on the dead side. The Storey Memorial Handicap favourite, Beau Repaire (Hall) was galloped over a round, being joined by Respectful (Long) at the sevenfurlong peg and by Marshall Hall (Ramsay) at the half-mile. Beau Repaire and Marshall Hall finished practically on terms with a gap of several lengths to Respectful. Beau Repaire did not relish the conditions particularly and in the event of heavy going obtaining on Saturday there is every probability that he will not go into the starter’s hands. Marshall Hall, on the other hand, was right at home under the conditions and after jumping away on terms with the other two at the halfmile soon put a break of several lengths on them and though Beau Repaire was right with him at the end, the two-year-old gave the impression that he could easily have maintained that earlier advantage. He was under a firm hold over the last furlong. Racecamp Hits Out

Racecamp (Brown) cleared right away from Mio Generale (O. Mclnally) over the deciding stages of five furlongs in 1.13 1-5. The time was not outstanding by any means but Racecamp impressed by the manner in which he was revelling in his work at the end. He is to have the services of the lightweight apprentice, L. C. Brown, in the big race the first day. Commemoration (Winder) and Jcyvaals (Hain) came home from the five furlong peg in 1.104. Foxsen (Long) and Acreman (Telford) jumped off at the five-furlong peg but were being eased up halfway down the straight. Taken over the first three furlongs they were timed to run this distance in 40s. Fo.ysen is looking in gooa "Heart for racing at the local fixture. A smart half-mile was credited to Silveyor (Brown), who came home in 555. This speedy two-year-old has not met with the best of luck to date but may make amends shortly.

Calorie—Dark Shadow Calorie (Ensor) and Dark Shadow (Long) were associated over six furlongs, and after running their first furlong in 12£s, covered the full distance in 1.25 2-5. Calorie appears to be on the up-grade and did her work pleasingly this morning. Maori Song (Winder) and Torch (Hain) were galloped six furlongs, and after cutting out the first three furlongs in 40s, were under a firm hold in the straight to register 1.26. Maori Song is steadily on the upgrade and while he may be all the better for a race he is not without prospects among the sprinters here.

Hunto (Hain) was being heid back to Karatoki (Gollop) over the deciding stages of six furlongs in 1.24 1-5, the first quarter being run in 25 l-5s and the final half-mile in 595. Diversity (Ensor) and Mio Fratollo (Cummerford) came home in six furlongs in 1.25 3-5, the final five furlongs occupying 1.12 4-5. The best five furlongs of the morning was that of Wyndora (Ensor), who, unaccompanied, ran the distance in 1.9£. She is coming to hand well. Ngawiri (Ensor), who is not at her best in soft ground, traversed half-a-mile in 55 4-ss. She is looking well. Smart Half-mile The best figures of the morning over half-a-mile were registered by the improving Glen be van (Ensor), who recorded 545. Glenbevan shaped encouragingly at Rotorua last week-end and should make early amends. Lornacre (Conroy) worked lazily over five furlongs in 1.15. He will not be seen to advantage here if the track is soft. Maneroo (Brown) ran five furlongs in I.lo£, her last half-mile in 57 4-ss. Sir Lysander (Brown) was to have galloped on the No. 1 grass but shied into the rail and stifled himself. He was to have started on the second day of the meeting and it is now questionable whether he will fulfil his engagement or not. Royal Bachelor and Mayfah worked over half-a-mile. The former has seen little of the track in recent weeks, his work being confined chiefly to the roads.

R. Johnston has arrived from New Plymouth with Lexden and the maiden Moymell and both were exercised on the sand. Lexden, a sprint candidate for the first day of the meeting, is bearing a well-trained appearance and is expected to perform prominently at the meeting. Riotous, looking a picture of condition, was exercised over a couple of rounds on the sand, as also were S. J. Reid’s Hastings representatives, Kathbella and Yogi. H. Maria is on the scene with Eastern Heir and B. Burgess is expected to-day with Lady Montana, White Rajah, and Augment. P. A. Swney is also due with Golden Sheila, Foxmond and Volifox.

Riding Engagements Riding engagements for the meeting include:— H. Long: Foxsen. Dark Shadow Flying Vixen, Huntsman’s Chorus. L. C. Brown: Racecamp. N. Watson: Tutor.
