ARMY TRUCK MISHAP

FOUR VEHICLES INVOLVED TWO EXTENSIVELY DAMAGED (By Telegraph. —Press Association) WELLINGTON, Wednesday Four heavy Army trucks travelling south along the Hutt Road this evening were involved in a mix-up which resulted in two being extensively damaged and a third slightly damaged. The driver of one, Mr H. J. Lomax, received head injuries and abrasions to the right leg and was taken to hospital. The trucks were moving in convoy. The leading truck slowed down and was struck behind by the second truck. Seeing this, the driver of the third vehicle braked suddenly and his truck skidded on the wet bitumen and was hit by the fourth vehicle, which then bumped over the division in the centre of the road and came to rest straddling it. The driver of the fifth truck managed to prevent his vehicle from becoming involved. The leading truck was only slightly damaged at the back, but the second and third were more badly knocked about. The fourth was damaged about the radiator. The vehicles, which were returning to the central military district headquarters, Wellington, from the Trentham camp, were all empty. Mr Lomax was unconscious for half an hour after admission to hospital.
