PROMISING JUMPER

CHARCOT AT MATAMATA TO CONTEST HURDLES HERE It was at the recent Matamata meeting that Charcot, in contesting the Tirau Hurdles, showed himself to be a jumper above the average and in the rather mediocre hurdle company engaged at Te Rapa on Saturday he should not fail to show to advantage. On that occasion at Matamata his fast and clever fencing took him to the front from the outset and he set a merry pace in front with his stablemate, Stokowski. He tired over the last furlong but was battling on, nevertheless, after Stokowski had retired, to run General Ruse to a couple of lengths. Charcot, who incidentally, was having his first experience of hurdle company, appealed strongly as an early improver in this department and the five-year-old son of Bronze Eagle should not lack for solid support when he goes into the starter s hands for the Frankton Hurdles on Saturday. And it will be further in his favour that this week’s distance will be a furlong shorter than at Matamata.
