FINE SUNDAY
FIRST IN FIVE WEEKS HEAVY RAIN ON SATURDAY Hamilton experienced its first fine Sunday in five weeks yesterday, but at no time during the day was the weather as warm as is usual in midFebruary. In fact, during the early part of the day the conditions were wintry, with a cool southerly wind tempering the bright sunshine.
Despite the restrictions on petrol for private cars, many motorists took advantage of the welcome break to spend the day out-of-doors. In Hamilton swimming in both the Waikato River and the Hamilton Lake was again popular, although after the heavy rain over the past week the water was colder than earlier this year. Heavy showers which fell throughout Saturday accounted for a fall of .55in of rain over the week-end. The monthly total has risen to 2.37in compared with the average for the month of 3.10in. Temperatures on the whole yesterday were well below the February level, the minimum being 51 degrees and the maximum 66 degrees.
