APPEAL TO THE POPE INTERVENTION REFUSED (United Press Assn.—Eire. Tel. Copyright) LONDON, Feb. 7 The Daily Telegraph’s correspondent at the Vatican City says it is understood the Pope’s intervention was sought on behalf of the condemned men, but His Holiness refused on the ground that they nad had a fair trial, while the crime could not be justified or extenuated even by the excuse of patriotic motive. NEW YORK. Feb. 7 Irish Republican Army sympathisers invaded the closed World’s Fair grounds, hoisted at half-mast the Eireann flag and laid a wreath at the Irish Pavilion in sympathy for the men executed at Birmingham.
