CHRYSANTHEMUM SHOW

COLOURFUL DISPLAY OF BLOOMS lIIGTI STANDARD OF FLORAL WORK Judging by the blooms on display at the opening of the Chrysanthemum Show held by the Hamilton Horticultural Society (Inc.) in the Alexandra Hall yesterday afternoon. Ihe exhibitors have waged a very successful war against the dry weather prevailing for the last three months. Masses of flowers, mainly in autumn colourings, perhaps the loveliest of all nature’s colour schemes, were charmingly arranged and attracted a large number of garden-lovers from Hamilton and surrounding districts. The entrance to the hall had been transformed with flowers and was a fitting prelude to the blaze of colour within. Floral Work One of the cleverest exhibits was a decorated basket of berries, th« variety and original use of the berries causing much complimentary comment, while the Anzac Floral Design section brought forward many charming ideas. The witch bowls were the centre of admiration with their dainty fairy-like appearance. Dr. F. W. Pinfold officially opened the show, and Mrs Colin Downes. Tc Awamutu. and Mr A. J. Shailer, Palmerston North, were the judges. The serving of a delicious afternoon tea during the afternoon, added to the enjoyment of the patrons. Ladies of the committee are:—Mesdames 11. M.
