ENGLISH COUNTIES

MEETING OF ASSOCIATION ENJOYABLE SOCIAL EVENING The Birmingham and English Counties’ Association held its monthly meeting and social in Toorak Hall recently. The president, Mr F. Waters, presided over a large gathering of members and friends. The meeting opened with the singing of the National Anthem, and after the business had been dealt with the function took the form of a social evening. A presentation was made to Mr and Mrs J. T- Reid. Mr F. Waters spoke of the valuable work Mr and Mrs Reid had done for the association, as president and hostess. They were accorded musical honours, and Mr Reid suitably replied. A bright and varied programme followed and was much appreciated. The items were as follows: —Songs, Mr J. Fricker, accompanied by Mrs Fricker; yiano-accordlon solos, Mr Shoemark (New Plymouth) and Mr H. Fawcett; Highland dancing, Miss Thelma Patterson; songs, Mr Hardman; mouth-organ solos, Mr J. Kilburn and Mr J. Lerke. Mr Swindells was M.G. Competitions and novelty dances were enjoyed, followed by supper served by the hostesses, Mesdames F. Waters, J. Renoff, Drummond, Barnett and J. Stewart. After supper the holding of a picnic was discussed, and it was arranged that it should take place on Sunday, February 20, at Milford, Auckland. A happy evening closed with the singing of “Auld Lang Syne ’’ Mr and Mrs Walker, Mrs J. Stewart, Mrs Edmonds and Miss N. Renoff were the lucky prize-winners.
