QUICKSTEP COMPETITION. TIMARU WINS A GRADE. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) NELSON, Saturday. A cloudless sky and a light breeze favoured the quickstep competition in the band contest this afternoon. A large crowd from a wide district witnessed the event at Trafalgar Park, where 19 bands competed. Splendid marching was seen, but some bands which excelled in this department lost heavily on music points. Scoring consistently in both, Timaru won the A grade quickstep, and Wellington Tramways completed a double by winning the B grade, thus taking the Sliardlow Memorial Challenge Shield. Results are as follows: A Grade. —Timaru: Military points, 1645; music, 146; total, 310$. Wanganui Garrison: 164, 137—301. Woolston: 157, 145 —300. Palmerston North Garrison: 1535, 136—2895.
