JOURNALIST’S DEATH.
LAST RITEs PERFORMED. THE LATE MR C. L. BARKER. More than forty cars followed the hearse from the Church of Our Lady of the Rosary yesterday afternoon to the Hamilton East Cemetery for the interment of the late Mr C. L. Barker, a well—know“ member of the literary stat! of the Walketo Times. who died suddenly in Hamilton on Thursday. A short service was read at the church‘ by the Rev. Father M. J. Bleekley. who also performed the last rites at the graveside. The pail—hearers were Messrs Harold and Ronald Barker. brothers of the deceased. P. A. West and W. S. Jordan, representing the Timeiiterary staff, and Messrs R. and J. Casey. All departments of the Wetkato Times were represented. together with Mr C. L. Ma'cDiermid. chairman of directors, Messrs G. \V. Hyde and W. H. Paul. members or the directorate, and the editor, Mr H. \V. Nixon. '
Recognition of the ungrudging service which the late Mr Barker rendered many public bodies was indicated by the profusion of wreaths and the number or representatives of Sport and other associations present. Three members or the Hamilton Bor~ ough Council. Messrs H. .\l. Hammond. C. Latterty and F. Findlay. attended. together with Mr \V. H. Alien, secretary of the \Vaikato Trotting Club. the Hamilton Horticultural Society. the Hamilton Gun Club and the “al\kato Sub-Provincial executive oiflthu lFarmers‘ Union; Mr P. H. Rowe and Mr C. \V. Wycheriey. president and secretary respectively or the South Auckland Bowling Centre; Mr \V. 11. Paul, secretary of the \Vaikato Winter Show Association, and pres]dent of the Hamilton Domain Board. and the Hamilton Beautirying Socieiy. Among others present in an ofiieial capacity were Mr G. H. V. Bindon. club-captain of the Hamilton Golf Club; Mr W. P. Aldridge, Chic! Post—master at Hamilton; Mr E. A. Butt. district agent of the New Zealand Herald; Mr E. J. L. Whiting, presl‘ dent of the Hamilton Rugby Union; Mr L. N. Sargent. president or the Hamilton Motor-Cycle Club; Mr V. S. Harris. secretary of the W’alkgto Wrestling Association and Mr V. J. Alexander, secretary or the Hamilton Suburban Lawn Tennis Association.
