LIABILITY INSURANCE.

(To the Editor.) Sir,—in connection with farmers’ and employers’ liability insurance may I crave a portion of your valuable space to bring to the notice of farmers the necessity of ensuring that they have adequate cover in regard to this particular class of insurance. Farmers generally do not seem to be aware of the fact that many of the operations carried out on farms by the employees do not come within the scope of the policy usually issued by in-siwrance companies to farmers. The avemge policy includes ordinary farm work and, if specifically stated,' haymaking and harvesting operations; but such employment as tree-felling, gorse-gnubbing, use of sodium chlorate for ragwort eradication, blasting of trees or logs or rock, brealdng-lti of horses and a few other operations carried out on most farms from time to time are not included in the cover carried by the average farmer, and in the event of an employee being injured in any of these occupations the farmer concerned would not be entitled to look to his insurance company to settle any claim that might arise.

Of course additional cover for any or all of these occupations would entail higher premium payments, but a wise farmer will appreciate that a little extra payment is a better investment than insufficient cover over his employees. It would, I am sure, be of great benefit to farmers if some insurance authority could be prevailed upon to contribute ail article covering the benefits and limitations of this class of insurance; but meanwhile farmers who aro in any doubt as to the adequacy of their cover should lose no timo in obtaining further information from tlio particular company carrying their risk. I may state that I am in no way connected with any insurance company, and do not write to swell the revenue of these institutions; but’ the onus is on the insured party to obtain full and adequate cover, and as a farmer 1 hope to render some service to my fellows in bringing ibis matter forward. —l nin, etc., FULLY COVERED. Tninalicrc, December 20.
