Rear-Admiral R. E. Byrd expressed great satisfaction at the Australian Commonwealth's rescue expedition for Mr Ellsworth, and declared his belief that Mr Ellsworth is alive and at Little America. His silenoe is probably due to radio trouble rather than engine difficulties, the fading of the radio even while In the air Indicating this.

Rear-Admiral R. E. Byrd, in a lecture here to-night, said the next step in . the field of exploration should be the ooean depths. “ We have solved the major problems of the Arctio and Antarctic, and scientists are now exploring the stratosphere," said Admiral Byrd. “ Exploration of the o'cean depths would be for the purpose of learning about continents that have disappeared. This would necessitate solentlflo expeditions as elaborate as those with which we have explored the mysteries of the Arctio and Antarctic.' ’
While for the next two or three years he would personally be busy recording the Information gathered In the Antarotio, Rear-Admiral Byrd Indicated that an o'cean expedition in the future was a distinct possibilty.
