ATTEMPT TO RAISE PRICE. ACTION IN UNITED STATES. ■ United Press Assn.—Elec. Tel. Copyright. WASHINGTON, June 8. The Democrat member of the Senate for Reno, Mr P. A. McCarran, has called a meeting of the Senate’s silver bloc for Monday to press a proposal to raise silver lo 1 dollar 29 cents an ounce. Also Mr McCarran desires to combat rumours abroad to th_c effect (hat Hie United Slates Government is about to abandon its silver purchase programme and to combat also the unwarranted drop in the market price.
