Major F. S. Varnham has been appointed to the command of the Taranaki Regiment, in succession to Lieu-tenant-Colonel G. F. Bertrand.
Mr D. T. McCormick, headmaster of the Hastings Central School, has been appointed headmaster of the Linwoud Avenue School, Christchurch.
Mr G. H. Fleming has been appointed a member of the .executive of the Auckland Provincial Patriotic and War Relief Association to 1111 the vacancy caused by the death of Mr W. B. Leyland.
Mr Duncan Hall, an Australian, author of " The British Commonwealth of Nations,” has been appointed Dominion press officer for the League of Nations at Geneva. —London cable message. x
At a meeting of the Auckland Licensing Committee the following transfers of Uocnses were granted:— Royal Hotel, Auckland, from Mr J. Reilly to Mr E. 0. Bennett; Central Hotel, from Mr S. McDonald to Mr J. R. Foster.
Mr G. G. Grant was appointed by the Auckland City Council lust night as its representative on the Auckland University College Council, in succession to the former Mayor, Mr G. W. Hutchison. Mr J. S. Stewart was appointed the City Council’s representative on the Great Soutli Road Beautifying Council.
Mr J. Wilson, son of Bishop Wilson, Bishop of Bunbury, New South Wales, lias been appointed organising secretary for tiic Melanesian Mission in New Zealand. lie will probably take over his new duties before llie end uf the year, after a lour of the islands in company with Bishop Baddclcy, Bishop of Melanesia.
Mr D. R. MCnzies, of the firm of Messrs Clark, Mcnzies, Griffin and Ross, public accountants and auditors, Wellington, lias been appointed to the local board of the A..M.P- Society, replacing Sir Harold Beauchamp, who has retired. Mr E. W. A. Kellow, of Messrs .lames KeJlow and Sons, public accountants, Wellington, will replace Mr Mcnzles as a branch auditor.
