MELBOURNE v. NEW ZEALAND. MELBOURNE, Dec. 27. I’lie tennis tournament between Melbourne and New Zealand University students was continued 10-day. In the doubles Barnett and Barrel’ (New Zealand) defeated Boone and Hones, B—G, G—o, and Lawton and Uerham defeated Young and McCarthy (New Zealand), G—4, G—3. In the singles Boone defeated McCarthy, G—3, 3 —G, 7 —5; Derliam defeated Barrel’, 6—l, G—3; Barnett defeated Lawton, 6 —l, G—3; Jones defeated Young, G—3, G—l. The total scores are: —Melbourne, 7 rubbers, .14 sets, 129 games; New Zealand, 5 rubbers, 12 sets, 120 games. Although Hie Melbourne players were one set behind after the singles yesterday they dominated play 10-day', winning Hie series by two rubbers. Tho eoiirts were heavy. The most exciting match was llio singles between Boone and McCarthy.
