VICE-ADMIRAL GLOSSOP. United Press Assn.—Elec. Tel. Copyright LONDON, Dec. 23. The death has occurred of ViceAdmiral John G. T. Glossop (retired), who commanded the Australian cruiser Sydney when she destroyed the German raider Enulcn in battle at the Cocos Islands. For that feat he was decorated by Britain • (C. 8.), France (officer of the Legion of Honour), and Japan (Order of the Rising Sun, 3rd class). Vice-Admiral Glossop served during the Samoan troubles of 1899, being also a midshipman of the Calliope when she alone of four warships outrode a hurricane in Apia. He married a Miss MoPhillamy, of Bathurst, New South Wales.

Although an Englishman by birth, Rear-Admiral Glossop was typically an Australian in temperament. He was the llflh son of the llcv. (!. (1, P. Glossop, and was horn in Twickenham, Middlesex, England. Of his brothers, two are, in Ihe church, one is in the army, and another is in Hie navy. The last-named was in Australia as a midshipman in about 1889, of his three sisters, one, in South Africa, is noted as an artist.
