CATHOLIC BALL.

BRILLIANT FUNCTION. PRESENTATION or DEBUTANTES. One of the most brilliant functions of the year, the annual Catholic ball and presentation of debutantes toov place in the Alexandra Hall last evening. The ball had been attractively decorated with pungas. tree ferns ami coloured lights, and presented a gay scene. A delicious supper was sen eel, the tables being charmingly arranged with bowls of spring flowers. The hostesses for the evening were :■ — Mrs E. Jones, wearing electric blue embossed georgette, with silk velvet coatee to tone. Mrs G. Parkhouse, black velvet, trimmed with white fur. Mrs S. J. Jenldnson, heavy beige lace relieved with coral. Mrs J. J. Power, electric blue ring velvet.

Mrs D. Simcock, autumn tinted diagonal crepe de chine. ■Mrs, T. N. Pemberton, black georgette and lace. Mrs A. R. Cronin, black lace and georgette. Mrs J. Hynes, black silk net and silk lame.

The ball was an unqualified success and those connected with its organisalion are to be congratulated on the result of their efforts. Mrs Edward Jones was in charge of the supper arrangements and hail decorations and Mrs E. F. Pcacocke was responsible for the decorations in the supperroom.

The presentation of debutantes to His Lordship, the Right Rev. Dr. Liston, of Auckland, took place at nine o’clock.

Seated on the dais with His Lordship were the Matrons of Honour, Mrs A. McGarrigle and Mrs John Murphy, and the Rev. Father Walls.

Mrs McGarrigle was wearing black sequinned net, relieved with silver, and Mrs Murphy’s frock was of black flat crepe. Before the presentation ceremony, the Misses Nancy and Dawn Jordan, dressed as pages in suits of cardinal red satin, presented Mrs McGarrigle and Mrs Murphy with bouquets. The debutantes, of whom there were twenty-eight, walked in pairs and after curtseying, each took her place at the back of the dais. Mr W. Wynne was the official announcer. His Lordship congratulated the committee on the success of its efforts and wished the debutantes every happiness. * The Debutantes. The following debutantes were presented:— Miss Barabara Chitty, white crepe phandome and lace with diamante trimming. Miss Mary Rawlinson, ivory nlnon with beaded yoke and coatee. Miss Muriel Edmondson, Grecian frock of ivory suede crinkle with doved epaulettes, worn with a necklace of violets. Miss Mary Quinlan (Walpavva, Hawke’s Bay), Swiss muslin with net frills and diamante trimming, worn with a taffeta coatee. Miss Gwen Simcock, ivory phantom faille cut on slender lines with cowl neckline and sleeves. Miss Florence Redwood, while, slim fitting marocain, with drop pleated sleeves. Miss Murielle Ilawkins (Te Avvamutu), jvory matelasse with gold lame lined epaulettes. Miss Joan Parkhouse, ivory guipure lace and tulle. Miss Margaret Peacock (Raglan), ivory Sand marocain with silk cony skin trimmings. Miss Kathleen Egan, satin and lace with pearl trimmings. 1 Miss Cushla Roache, French ivory crepe de chine ana vene-tian lace. Miss Sheila Devitt, white silk marocain with diamante trimming. Miss Joan Stewart, frilled ivory Swiss organdie and angelskin lace. Miss Gwen Power, white georgette, cut on simple lines, with puff sleeves and strippings of ruched silver lame. Miss Marjorie Greenslade, ivory windswept satin, trimmed with white fur. Miss Joan Cronin, parchment windswept satin with draped bodice. Miss Madiline O’Neill, parchment windswept satin, with draped bodice. Miss Peggy McGovern (Te Awarnutu), ivory doeskin satin, cut on classic lines, diamante trimming. Miss Dorothy Farrell, ivory silk ring velvet with white fur trimming. Miss Margot Wydur, ruffled Swiss organdie over ivory satin. Miss Bona Wheatley, parchment lace with net ruffles-and bustle effect. Miss Amy Weal (Te Awamutu), white frilled crepe de chine. Miss Mamie Chillingworth (Te Awamutu), white isatin beaute and angelskin lace. Miss Molly McCrorv (Te Awamutu), white crepo de chine with frilled godets. Miss Maureen Lambert, white Chantilly lace and tulle with pastel velvet flowers. Miss Joan McGovern (Te Awamutu), white taffeta and cire net with taffeta niching edged with silver, and silk velvet cape. Miss Margaret Quia (Te Awamutu), ivory satin and cire lace frock with pea.u d'ange net cape nppliqued in lac flowers. Miss Joan Cox, ivory embossed panne velvet. All Hie debutantes carried posies of pastel shaded flowers. Mrs Aileen Parkhouse was responsible for Hie training of the debutantes.
