WOMEN’S INSTITUTES.
THE KARAPIRO BRANCH. At the monthly meeting of the Karapiro branch of the Women’s Institute, Mrs M. Marples presided? Owing to sickness in the district the attendance was not as good as usual; however, a very enjoyable time was spent. It was unanimously decided that the Government be urged to set up the much-needed obstetrical hospital at Dunedin. It was also decided to support the Governor-General’s relief fund. The members will also contribute recipes towards the compiling of a federation cookery book.
Mrs Mitchell, of Cambridge, gave a very Interesting demonstration of passe-partout, and has promised to give a demonstration of tatting at some future date. The hostesses for the afternoon, Mesdames Marples, Rishworth and Greenan served a delicious afternoon tea.
MATAMATA BRANCH. On Tuesday forty members and friends were . present at the monthly meeting of the Matamata branch of the Women's Institute, Mrs G. G. Bell presiding. After the business had been dealt with, Mrs Itix, of Walton, gave a most interesting address about her recent visit to Christchurch as a delegate to the Dominion conference. The speaker was accorded a hearty vote of thanks. Mrs G. G. Bell was’ nominated as delegate to attend the round table conference to be held in Hamilton on Tuesday next. Mrs Ken Gouk won the competition arranged by Mrs Gurney, and Mrs R. Hawes won the “flower wedding’ competition, the prize being donated by Mrs T. E. McMillan. The hostesses were Mesdames J. White, F. 'Brunlon, Gurney, Woodroofe and S. Ellery. RAGLAN BRANCH. The monthly meeting of the Raglan Women’s Institute was held on Friday, 16th. The roll call was for a Scots story, and the competition was for a child’s lunch costing no more than 4d. This was judged by Dr. Mulcock and won by Mrs F. Bernard; Mrs A. L. Pegler was second. A most interesting demonstration was given on the care of the sewing machine and the use of the rug-mak-ing attachment. Members contributed to the Gov-ernor-General’s relief fund.
were finalised for the forthcoming debate between the Women’s Institute and the bowlers. The hostesses were Mesdames Eng, Hird, Hoskin, Gilmour, and Miss Fuller.
