RESEARCH IN ENOLAND.

INTERESTING EXPERIMENT. _ " UNDER SEA VOYAGE CONDITIONS. • . ! United Press Assn—Elec. Tel. Copyright. (Received Sept. 16, 1.40 p.m.) LONDON, Sept. 15. An experiment ol vital interest to Australia and New Zealand has been begun at the Government research, laboratory at Ditton in packing apples- *' Seven thousand cases of English, apples have been placed in the model of a ship’s hold, having an air. space of 16,000 cubic feet. The conditions are exactly akin to a voyage from Australia. Australian boxes are used because of the absence of bulge, which Is thought to be a factor affecting air distribution. The hold will be kept at an even temperature and the thermometer will automatically register externally • the heat generated by the fruit and the poisoning of the air with carbon dioxide, including the development of moulds and bacteria. It is hoped from this experiment, that the best corrective methods viU be discovered.
