STEADY DEMAND FOR OX BEEF.

Messrs Dalgety and Company, Limited, Auckland, report:—At our weekly Westfield fat stock market to-day ox beef was yarded in full average numbers, for which a steady demand existed, and values for prime quality ruled equal to late rates. Plain and second quality cattle did not realise last week’s level. Cow and heifer beef also came forward in average numbers, and here also values generally ruled at late rates. Extra choice ox beef sold to 20s per 1001 b., choice and prime, 17s to 10s; just killable, 14s to 16s; prime young cow’ and heifer beef, 14s to 17s; just killable, 9s to 13s. Heavy prime steers made from £6 5s to £6 17s Gd; lighter, £5 10s to £6 2s 6d; light, £4 to £5 7s 6d; small and unfinished, £1 17s 6cl to £3 10s. Extra heavy prime young cows and heifers, £4 2s Od lo £4 1 0s; Heavy, £3 5s to £4; lighter, £2 10s to £3 2s Gd; other killable cows, £1 10s to £2 7s Gd.
