FRANCS FOR FRANCE.
BANK OF ENGLAND LOAN.
•"A FRIENDLY GESTURE
FRENCH MINISTRY’S ANXIETY,
United Press Assn.—Elec. Tel. Copyright. PARIS, April 26.
It is reported that the Bank of England has arranged to lend »the French Treasury francs from the Exchange Equalisation Fund to assist over the next few months when the French Government will be short of money owing to delay in the payment of taxes. The Bank of England in its efforts to keep down the pound acquired large quantities of francs. The arrangement is a friendly gesture similar to that France made to the Bank of England when the pound began to fall. The French Government is doubtful whether 'it would be able to raise a loan in France at the present time, so the arrangement has been made to relieve the Treasury’s anxiety for a few months.
