WOMEN’S DIVISION.
RAGLAN-KARiai BRANCH. The annual meeting of the above branch was held recently in the Town Hall, when there was a very good attendance of members. Before the commencement of business, members stood for a minute in silence as a token of sympathy with those members who had suffered bereavement during the past year. The annual report was presented by the president, Mrs V. E. Pegler, and showed the branch to have had a very busy and successful year. Much useful work has been accomplished, while the social side has also been well catered for. A flower show, birthday party, children’s Christmas party, picnic, grandmothers’ day, and several social afternoons and evenings have been held to help various causes.
The secretary, Mrs Darby, presented a comprehensive balance-sheet which showed the branch to bo In a sound financial -condition, while the report showed the membership to have risen from an original 14 to 48. A donation of £4 had been sent to the community chest, and the hope was expressed that further donations might be sent before the year was out. Both reports were adopted- unanimously and a hearty vote of thanks was passed to the retiring -officers and committee. Tlie following were elected for the -coming year:—President, Mrs V. E. Peglcr; vice-presidents, Mrs W. R. Moore and Mrs W. Park; lion, secretary and treasurer, Mrs S. Darby; committee, Mesdames White, Lomas, G. Jackson, Nofl'ke and Carpenter. it was decided to hold our meetings on the first Thursday in the month. After the conclusion of business, Mis-s M. Lancaster, of St. John Ambulance, gave a very interesting and instructive demonstration on first-aid bandaging. Afternoon tea brought a very pleasant meeting to a close, the hostesses being Mesdames Moore, Cowley, Carpenter, G. Poolcy, and Miss L. llill.
MOTUMAOHO BRANCH. A meeting of the Women's Institute was held in the Motumaoho halt on Wednesday afternoon with Mrs Sang presiding. The motto for the month was, “It’s never too late to learn.” The roll call was “My Favourite Recipe,” resulting in a large number of recipes being handed in. Mrs P. Clark, wlto is president of the Whiliaohu Women’s institute, addressed the meeting. A demonstration was given in wool flowers and daisy woolwork by Mrs Boyce, of Grini. Mrs J. Brown, of Tauliei, demonstrated binder twine mats. A competition provided by Mrs W. Smith was won by Mrs Jonner. The hostesses were Mrs Smith, Mrs O’Laughlin, Mrs Ball and Miss D. Manhire.
