Killing was commenced to-day at the Gear Meat Company’s works and at Ngahauranga and Is progressing satisfactorily. At Ngahauranga there were over 100 applications for work on the board. Forty-two men were engaged and the chain-gang system instituted. Union labour was freely offering in other departments apart from the slaughtering. A number of men applied for work at the Gear Meat Company’s works. About half the applicants are union men.
