GREAT DETECTIVE WORK
IN PICTON MURDER CASE. THE JUDGE’S EULOGY. OFFICERS SPECIALLY COMMENDED (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) BLENHEIM, Wednesday. At the conclusion of the trial of Edward Tarrant for the Picton muder, His Honour Mr. Justice Blair, invited Sub-Inspector Ward, Detective-Ser-geant Jarrold, Sergeant Peterson and Detectives Sinclair and Hall to his chambers for the purpose of personally expressing to them his appreciation of the remarkable detective work accomplished by them. His Honour mentioned that Sir Frederick Chapman, a retired judge, and possibly one of New Zealand’s greatest criminal judges, had expressed the opinion that the detective work displayed in the Tarrant case had made it one of the most outstanding in the story of crime in the Dominion. His Honour added that lie intended to write to the Commissioner of Police, recording his appreciation of the officer’s services.
