WOMEN’S DRESS IN PARIS

VARIATIONS AND SIMPLICITY. (From a Correspondent.) Four dresses made by Jean Patou and worn by Mile. Elv.ce Popesco on the stage point to simple styles with no exaggeration of the lowered waistline. Two are of crepe, one pale green and the other pale rose: flat, inset pleating gives the 'Straight skirts avid Hi at the knees: the well-cut bodices House slightly over hells of ‘lie material: lb n sleeves are long and the necklines are open. A violet satin dress, .cut high in front and low at the back, reaches lo Ihe instep. A gre> dress and three-quarter coat arc worn with a small grey hat and high grey fur collar. The audience, for it was in the afternoon, wore furs and small hats of felt, or velvet or of felt trimmed with velvet. Furs now tie in front or on the shoulder with bows and ends of ribbon, or fasten invisibly. AN hen short fur scarves are worn brightcoloured wool or silk scarves take their place. Hats fit very closely and are trimmed elaborately round the brim. No hat Is worn quite straight. There is also the ruche of velvet, chenille, satin, ribbons, or in the piece; and three-cornered shawls are also accessories to evening dress.
